Fruit, vegetable exports likely to soar to record levels
In an exciting development, Vietnam is poised to witness an unprecedented surge in fruit and vegetable exports in 2024, fueled by groundbreaking initiatives such as the negotiation of an export protocol for fresh coconut and frozen durian with China, marking a significant milestone for the country’s position among international shipping companies in Vietnam and reinforcing its role in the global transport and logistics business.
The first quarter of the year has already seen a remarkable milestone, with exports surpassing the US$1 billion mark for the first time, marking a phenomenal 25.8% year-on-year increase. This trend underscores the importance of efficient freight and logistics companies in managing the surge in overseas shipments, particularly through cargo logistics services.

Đặng Phúc Nguyên, the esteemed general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, highlighted the pivotal role of durian in driving this export boom, particularly with the onset of the harvest season in the Central Highlands. Ngoài ra, sự tham gia của các công ty vận chuyển hàng hóa và nhà cung cấp dịch vụ vận tải hàng hóa đã hợp lý hóa các dịch vụ hậu cần quốc tế, đảm bảo dịch vụ vận chuyển hàng hóa kịp thời và an toàn.
With projected revenues of up to $300 million each, this strategic move could catapult Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports beyond the $6 billion mark by the end of 2024, signaling a monumental leap forward for the country’s agricultural sector.
Echoing this sentiment, Cao Bá Đăng Khoa, general secretary of the Vietnam Coconut Association, expressed palpable enthusiasm among businesses for the prospect of exporting coconuts to China under the forthcoming protocol. Urging stringent oversight from the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development, Khoa emphasized the importance of ensuring the integrity and traceability of Vietnamese agricultural products. The partnership between shipping company logistics and the logistics services provider sector has been key to managing the high demand and limited supply, demonstrating the value of a strong logistic services provider network. This collaboration among freight and logistics services ensures that Vietnam’s vegetable exports, despite environmental challenges, continue to reach international markets effectively.
In a strategic move to capitalize on China’s insatiable demand for durian, Đoàn Thúy Giang, chairman of Vĩnh Khang Group Joint Stock Company, announced plans to invest in state-of-the-art cold storage facilities to export frozen durian to the Chinese market. Leveraging Vietnam’s comparable quality to Thailand’s durian, Giang is confident in the competitiveness of Vietnamese products in capturing the hearts of Chinese consumers.
As Vietnam charts this unprecedented growth trajectory in agricultural exports, government agencies stress the imperative of robust oversight across farms and packing facilities. With a concerted focus on infrastructure development, semi-processing capabilities, and cold storage facilities, local authorities are poised to foster an environment conducive to sustained growth and prosperity in Vietnam’s agricultural sector. – VNS
