Exporting Rice Bran to China: Expanding Market Opportunities for Vietnam’s Rice By-product Industry.
The signing of the Protocol on the Export of Rice Bran and Defatted Rice Bran between Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) marks a significant step forward in agricultural exports, especially for by-products of the rice industry.
According to the protocol, rice bran and defatted rice bran exported to China must meet stringent standards regarding food safety and animal and plant quarantine. Specifically, the products must be free from harmful organisms, contain no genetically modified ingredients not yet approved, and comply with China’s latest feed hygiene standards such as GB13078 and GB10648.
Enterprises participating in exports must be approved by relevant authorities such as the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment). In addition, businesses must establish a HACCP system, a traceability system, and have the ability to control microorganisms, mold, and heavy metals, as well as implement periodic self-inspections for hygiene and safety.#Vietnam Freight forwarder#freight forwarding#cargo courier service#international shipping companies#shipping service company

The Global Rice Bran Market May Reach Tens of Billions of USD
In terms of logistics, export shipments must be cleanly packaged, in compliant packaging, and transported using sanitized and disinfected means. Each shipment must be accompanied by a hygiene and safety declaration for animal feed containing plant-based proteins, certified by the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health. In case of quarantine treatment, the certificate must clearly state the method, indicators, and include an English-language declaration confirming that the product fully meets the requirements outlined in the protocol.
According to Mr. Nguyễn Văn Thành – Director of Phước Thành IV Manufacturing – Trading Co., Ltd, the opening of the Chinese market for rice bran and defatted bran is a major step forward, enabling Vietnam’s rice by-product sector to expand its export markets, especially during harvest seasons when supply surges. He also noted that demand for this product remains high in China and other international markets, while the domestic market also holds strong consumption potential.
Currently, Vietnam produces around 5 million tons of rice bran annually. Although there is no official data on the global market value, experts estimate it could reach tens of billions of USD. This presents significant potential for the by-product export sector, particularly as domestic enterprises are increasingly familiar with and adaptable to international standards.
However, Chinese authorities will conduct strict inspections on every imported shipment. If violations are found, GACC may notify Vietnamese authorities and implement measures such as temporary suspension or revocation of the violating enterprise’s export license. Therefore, improving product quality, tightly controlling production processes, and effectively managing logistics chains are essential conditions to ensure stable and sustainable exports.
With the expansion of export markets and improvements in logistics for transportation, preservation, and quality control, rice bran and defatted rice bran are gradually becoming promising export items in Vietnam’s agricultural by-product portfolio. This is also a positive signal contributing to the strong development of the export sector in general and the agricultural logistics industry in particular in the near future.#logistic service#freight and logistics services#logistic service#freight and logistics services#logistics companies#shipping international#vietnam cfs
