Chili, passion fruit, and bird’s nest officially exported to China.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the signing of three protocols between the specialized agencies of the two countries is the result of a negotiation process that lasted many years. This process involved coordination from businesses, cooperatives, and local authorities to improve farming standards, issue planting area codes, and ensure traceability.
Chili is a crop that is easy to grow and harvest but also prone to risks if there is no stable market. In 2024, Vietnam exported 10,433 tons of chili with a total export value of 25.1 million USD; China consumed 7,811 tons, accounting for 75% of the market share. However, most of this volume was exported through unofficial channels (border trade), which left farmers unable to control prices or delivery schedules.#Vietnam Freight forwarder#freight forwarding#cargo courier service#international shipping companies#shipping service company
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, Secretary General of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, official export approval will give farmers confidence to invest in raw material zones, and allow enterprises to expand a sustainable supply chain.
Unlike other high-profile agricultural products, passion fruit is less talked about, but it remains one of the fruits with stable year-round yields and is favored in demanding markets such as the EU, Australia, and New Zealand.#Vietnam Freight forwarder#freight forwarding#cargo courier service#international shipping companies#shipping service company
Vietnam currently has about 12,000 hectares of passion fruit, producing 200,000 tons per year, mainly in Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and Son La provinces. This product has been exported on a trial basis to China since 2022, but only after being granted official export permission can farming expansion and packaging investment be properly planned.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Director of Mang Yang Passion Fruit Cooperative (Gia Lai), businesses in the sector are now negotiating to bring passion fruit into the U.S. market in 2025 – a move that runs parallel with efforts to maintain market share in China.

China has signed a protocol allowing the export of processed bird’s nest.
Bird’s nest has long been a promising export item, but for many years, access to China – which accounts for 80% of global bird’s nest demand – remained closed. In 2022, the two countries signed a protocol allowing the export of processed bird’s nest. In November 2023, the first batch of Vietnamese bird’s nest was officially cleared through customs. With this latest agreement, raw bird’s nest – which holds higher value and is commonly produced by small-scale farmers – has also been added to the official export list.
These three products being granted official export status means that farmers are no longer alone in the game of global integration.#Vietnam Freight forwarder#freight forwarding#cargo courier service#international shipping companies#shipping service company
According to the Plant Protection Department, as of April 2025, Vietnam has over 500 planting area codes and packaging facilities recognized by China. However, many small-scale farmers have yet to access the code issuance process, which requires high technical standards, clear documentation, and strict pest control protocols.
Experts emphasize that to sustain long-term development, it is necessary to standardize everything from plant varieties, fertilizers, and care techniques to post-harvest preservation.
