EU – A Potential but Challenging Market for Vietnamese Processed Food.
The EU is an important market for Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products, especially in the context of consignment exports and international shipping that are developing strongly. However, many businesses are still hesitant because this is a difficult market to access with strict food safety regulations. According to Dr. Ngo Xuan Nam, the EU applies the highest food safety standards in the world, ensured through solid legislation and the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). This creates significant challenges for shipping services from Vietnam to the EU.
The conditions for bringing food into the EU include: not posing a safety risk to human health based on scientific evidence; not misleading consumers; and not causing nutritional disadvantages when replacing other foods. Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 establishes a list of “novel foods” including “traditional foods from third countries.” Many Vietnamese agricultural products such as dried basil seeds, fruit-flavored soft drinks containing basil seeds, and snail meat have received warnings from RASFF because they are considered “unauthorized novel foods,” causing difficulties for sea transport services from Vietnam.#Vietnam Freight forwarder#freight forwarding#cargo courier service#international shipping companies#shipping service company

Vietnam wishing to export breaded shrimp containing eggs to the EU must use eggs originating from countries such as the United States, Japan, Brazil,…
A typical case is breaded shrimp using eggs. By habit, manufacturers often add eggs to create an adhesive layer, helping the flour stick to the shrimp and creating a more attractive yellow color. However, eggs are allergens and animal-origin products, which must comply with Regulation (EU) 2022/2292. Currently, the EU only allows the import of egg products from approved third countries such as the United States, Japan, and Brazil, so Vietnam wishing to export breaded shrimp containing eggs to the EU must use eggs originating from these countries.#Vietnam Freight forwarder#freight forwarding#cargo courier service#international shipping companies#shipping service company
Furthermore, according to Article 21 of Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011, eggs must be declared on product labels as they are in the group of allergens. Failure to declare or incorrect declaration may result in product recalls or import bans. Transport companies and import service providers should note that EU regulations frequently change. The Vietnam SPS Office recommends that businesses carefully study regulations on food safety, labeling, food information provision, and regulations on composite products.
For logistics and consignment export businesses, advising customers on complete and accurate labeling is extremely important. Strict compliance with regulations on allergen declaration and product origin requirements not only helps avoid legal risks but also enhances reputation and ensures consumer safety. Sea freight and logistics costs can increase significantly if goods are rejected for import, so compliance with EU regulations is a key factor in saving costs and protecting brand reputation in the long term.#Vietnam Freight forwarder#freight forwarding#cargo courier service#international shipping companies#shipping service company
