Currently, Vietnam ranks third globally in spice supply and processing, after India and China. The Vietnamese spice industry has 14 factories with advanced processing technology, playing a crucial role in global transport of goods to international markets. In 2023, Vietnam’s cargo logistics services for pepper, cinnamon, star anise, chili, cardamom, ginger, and turmeric reached 1.257 billion USD. Notably, the export of ginger, turmeric, and other spices alone reached 34,976 tons with an export value of 49.3 million USD, a sharp increase of 222.4% compared to 2022.
While ginger is familiar to Vietnamese people, it is highly sought after and valued when shipped internationally. Ky Son district (Nghe An province) is considered the “ginger capital” of Vietnam. Thanks to suitable climate and soil conditions, Ky Son ginger boasts superior quality and a distinctively rich flavor compared to ginger from other regions. Ky Son ginger is an indigenous variety, comprising two main types: buffalo horn ginger and de ginger.
Vietnamese ginger is typically exported frozen, often using freight and logistics services to ensure quality. Additionally, processed ginger products from Vietnam are in high demand, commonly used as a spice and for its digestive benefits, reducing nausea, and helping to combat flu and common colds. Candied ginger, in particular, is a popular product in colder countries. Besides its aromatic quality and taste, Vietnamese ginger also has lower freight and shipping rates compared to domestic products in many countries.
Turmeric, originating from India, is widespread in Vietnam but remains a rare spice globally, found only in tropical countries such as India, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, and Nigeria. Vietnam is one of the world’s largest turmeric-growing countries, with over 50,000 hectares (as of 2021), mainly in Central and Central Highlands provinces like Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, and Dak Nong.
For turmeric, turmeric powder is the most sought-after product internationally. Logistics companies and freight forwarders play a crucial role in cargo freight shipping of this product to international markets. Vietnamese turmeric powder is highly regarded for its beautiful color, pleasant aroma, lack of bitterness, and absence of impurities or preservatives. It also retains the curcumin content, an active compound with numerous health and beauty benefits. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties, supports digestion, protects the liver, boosts the immune system, improves memory, and aids in skin whitening.
To ensure product quality when sending goods internationally, many businesses have chosen professional transport services, including domestic and international container shipping. Transport and shipping companies provide affordable freight delivery services while ensuring the safety of goods. For new businesses, import-export trust services are a popular choice to save costs and optimize the process of entrusted export or import.
