Vietnam Coffee Exports Drop to Lowest Levels of 2024 in September
According to the latest data from the Export-Import Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam’s coffee industry is experiencing significant fluctuations in 2024. Despite a decline in export volume, export value has surged, presenting both challenges and opportunities for the international logistics sector.
In September 2024, Vietnam exported 65,000 tons of coffee, valued at USD 355 million, a 14.7% decrease in volume but a 110.8% increase in value compared to the same period last year. Over the first nine months of the year, export revenue reached USD 4.37 billion, a 39.6% rise despite a 10.5% drop in volume. This divergence highlights the need for advanced logistics services to ensure the safety and quality of high-value shipments.

In September, coffee exports fell to their lowest level of the year
The export price of coffee surged significantly, reaching a record high of USD 5,469 per ton in September, a 65.2% increase compared to the same period last year. This sharp rise presents a major opportunity for transportation and logistics companies to offer value-added services, especially for premium coffee shipments. With the higher value per ton, logistics providers can focus on specialized transportation solutions that ensure the preservation of quality and safety, enhancing the overall value chain for high-end coffee products during international shipping.
Global supply shortages from Brazil and Vietnam, along with shipping bottlenecks through the Red Sea, have posed major challenges to the global supply chain. This scenario offers forwarders a chance to develop innovative and efficient transportation solutions, especially in route optimization and risk management.
Forecasts of global coffee shortages in the 2024-2025 harvest season further emphasize the importance of expedited international shipping services. Logistics providers must be prepared to handle concentrated and rapid shipments when the new harvest begins.
To capitalize on the evolving coffee market, Vietnam’s logistics industry should focus on increasing its capacity to handle high-value shipments, investing in technology for tracking and preserving coffee quality during transit. Developing flexible logistics solutions to address supply shortages and shipping delays will also be crucial. Additionally, strengthening partnerships with logistics providers in key export markets will help optimize the supply chain and enhance competitiveness.
In summary, while the coffee market faces numerous challenges, it also presents new opportunities for Vietnam’s logistics sector. By adapting to these trends and continuously improving services, logistics companies can not only boost coffee exports but also play a pivotal role in enhancing the value and standing of Vietnamese coffee on the global stage.
